are required to complete eight specific college credit courses,
representing 25 credit hours of study, with a grade of "C"
or better in each course prior to admission. In addition, a one-unit
high school or 3-semester-hour college course in general chemistry
with a grade of “C” or better is required prior to admission.
Fifteen hours of the required general education courses
must be completed by August 31 before consideration for admission the
following January. These are:
- Human Anatomy, 3 credit hours
- Human Physiology, 3 credit hours
- English Composition, 3 credit hours
- College Algebra, 3 credit hours
- One other required 3-semester-hour general education course
- These remaining courses include:
- General Psychology
- Developmental Psychology
- Human Nutrition
- Microbiology and laboratory
Students must provide evidence of computer literacy
by April 30 of the admission year. Evidence includes one of the following:

Admission Requirements
By August 31, submit:
- An application for admission and nonrefundable application
fee.
By September 30, submit:
- High school transcript or GED scores.

meeting School of Nursing requirements, contact the school for
an appointment with the director.
- Two performance appraisals to be completed by a recent employer
or instructor. Forms will be mailed to you upon receipt of your
application.
- Nurse Entrance Text (NET) scores. A Composite Score at or above
the 50th percentile and at least 50 percent or higher on the three

the applicant is able to meet core performance standards for completion
of the program.
- Completed form provided by the school with information required
by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing (LSBN) on the criminal

Selection
Selection is determined by the School of Nursing Admissions Committee.
Selection is based on:
- Grade point average: A minimum GPA of 2.7 in required general
education courses completed to date. A second GPA will be also
be used in the admissions process, based on grades in 5 courses:
those 4 courses required to be completed by August 31 and 1 other
required 3-semester-hour general education course with the highest
grade. The higher of the first 2 grades obtained in a course will
be used to compute GPA. For colleges that award grades with a
plus (+), the GPA will be computed according to the letter grade
only.
- Nurse Entrance Test (NET) scores.
- Two acceptable performance appraisals. Interviews may or may
not be part of the selection process.
Acceptance
- Remit a non-refundable administrative fee of $50 by deadline
stated in letter of acceptance.

prior to January admission date.

at any time while enrolled in the School of Nursing as determined
by the proper authority.

have family and financial responsibilities which sometimes interfere
with time available for study and, therefore, academic achievement.
The graduation rate for the one-year period ending July 15, 2007 was
80.35 percent. For the past ten years the employment rate was 100%.

Effective November 1996, the Louisiana State Board of Nursing
requires a criminal records history background check on all nursing
students in registered nurse programs prior to initial licensure.

policies, performance standards (competencies), graduation requirements,

the school. Contact the School of Nursing about every 6 months

Financial Assistance
Federal Title IV Programs (School Code: 016560)
Students familiar with receiving federal financial aid should recognize that award amounts may be reduced upon initial enrollment at the Baton Rouge General Medical Center School of Nursing. The determination of award amount is based on class standing and all students enter the nursing program at the "Freshman" level. Additionally, the award calculation is based on projected expenses and the nursing program is typically less expensive than many colleges and universities.
For additional information on Financial Assistance, leave information requests at 381-6476.
Veterans Assistance
The Baton Rouge General Medical Center School of Nursing is approved
by the State Department of Education for eligible students to receive
veterans benefits (VA facility code: 32800118). Contact the Director
of the School of Nursing if you will be applying for Veteran's Administration
educational benefits.
